Dr. Petra van Moorsel, DVM

Veterinarian

I grew up in a small town in New Mexico, where my first job at 14 was on a horse-breeding ranch with over 100 Holsteiner horses.  It was here that I got my first exposure to veterinary medicine. I soon became a veterinary assistant for the local veterinarian and loved going on all the farm calls. These experiences led me to decide to become a veterinarian. I became a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at CSU in May 2015.

After veterinary school, I served four years as a Captain in the Army Veterinary Corps. Most of this time, I was stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM). While in the Army, I gained experience in general practice (cats and dogs), dentistry, working-dog medicine, field medicine, public health, and disaster and emergency management. I learned about the importance of leadership, teamwork, good communication, and the value of the human-animal bond. My time in the Army was invaluable, and it was my honor to serve. I chose to exit Active Duty in 2019 in order to spend more time with my growing family and to build stronger relationships with my veterinary clients and patients. I joined Steamboat Animal Hospital in 2019, where I have so enjoyed serving the local families and their pets — it truly feels like home.

When not working, I spend my time with my family adventuring outdoors and staying active. I have two dogs, two daughters and a pretty good husband.
